About Inquiries
The Inspector-General provides independent oversight over government agencies involved in managing and using the Murray-Darling Basin (the Basin). This includes the Australian Government, the Queensland, New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Victorian, and South Australian Governments and their respective agencies.
The Inspector-General conducts inquiries into the performance of functions and exercise of powers of government agencies. This enables the Inspector-General to examine how government action affects the Basin through Australian water laws. The Inspector-General highlights positive outcomes and provides critical commentary where improvement is needed to give full effect to the law and the health of the Basin.
